Married woman found dead in well; relatives suspect hubby

Uppinangady, Nov 12, 2014:  The body of a woman has been found  in a well near her house  at Kochakatte in Kadaba police station limits on November 11, Tuesday. The suspicion is that she had ended her life unable to bear harassment by her husband.

 

 

The deceased is Lakshmi (35), wife of a Dalit youth named Suresh. Sources said Suresh who was an alcoholic  used to  harass as well as torture his wife daily. It is said on November 10, Monday night too he had come home drunk following which there was a quarrel between the two. Though  Suresh’s mother tried to  pacify the two, it was of no use and Lakshmi had reportedly left home  at night. Her body was found inside the well the next morning.

 The relatives of the deceased woman have alleged that  Suresh had killed his wife and then dumped her body inside the well. Even the injuries on her head  seem to be substantiating it. The body has been taken for a post-mortem to a hospital in Derlakatte to know the exact cause of her death.

Police have registered this as a case of suicide as per the complaint lodged by a relative Krishnappa and the information provided by Lakshmi’s son Nitin. Both Lakshmi and Suresh were labourers.
