Mangaluru, August 6, 2017: The Mangaluru police on Saturday arrested Vinesh Shetty (46), notorious criminal accused in a double murder case of 2003.
Shetty, a native of Shirva in Udupi, was among the accused arrested by Mangaluru’s Konaje police in 2003 in connection with murder of Venugopal Nayak and his driver Santosh near Mudipu.
After his release on bail in 2005, Shetty failed to appear before the trial court which issued non-bailable warrant. Few weeks ago the 6th Additional District and Sessions Judge, who is hearing the murder case, re-issued the NBW.
Konaje inspector Ashok and SI Sukumar led the investigation and the arrest operation. On a tip off, a team of Konaje police led by Police Inspector Ashok went to a place in Mumbai and arrested Shetty.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) said police are questioning Shetty.
Sources says that he was an aide of underworld element Chota Rajan and also had links with underworld elements Chota Shakeel and Hemanth Poojary.
