Mangaluru, Nov 22,2016: The union government is likely to sanction Rs 32 crore for a modern jetty at the Mangalore Old Port, the project is to depend on how much the state government releases. The union government has decided to release Rs 10 crore to develop the old port in Mangaluru under the third phase of reconstruction.
Under the third phase, construction of the jetty is said to begin soon. Previously, work on the jetty construction had been temporarily stopped as the National Green Tribunal had objected to the project alleging violation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ). Moreover, the Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fishery (CICEF) had objected the construction saying the soil filled might limit the movement of water in the area. Both the objections were put off by the court.
