Mangaluru, June 22, 2016: IMSC, Indian Motor Sports Club, Mangaluru, will organize the first ever national rally in almost a decade sponsored by auto major Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd in conjunction with Ceat Tyres here on June 24, Friday.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will launch the monsoon challenge from Forum Fiza Mall. Time, Speed, Distance- TSD, mode will be observed in the 600 km rally which is the basic mode in modern rallying. The challenge will see some of the best rally drivers in TSD mode including Sanjay Takle of Pune, a driver of Asia Pacific Rally championship.
The participants will pass through Kollur, Shivamogga and will encounter tricky sectors in the interior and rural parts of the state and will conclude the run in Canacona, South Goa on June 26.
Ashwin Naik, ace rallyist and clerk of the course of monsoon challenge rally who is also the only Indian co-driver to participate in British Rally Championship said that all those years since the challenge was initiated, Mangaluru was either a transit or end point. But this time they chose the city for launching the sixth edition as many talented youth in motor sports have come from Mangaluru, he said. He added that even now there was a considerable level of interest among youth about the rally as a sport; rallying was just not about speed but also about discipline, safety and modern day rallying would give paramount importance to safety. Karthik Maruti and Shankaranand from Erode had won the monsoon challenge last year.
