Mangaluru: September 2, 2015: The much-delayed work on Town Hall renovation has gathered pace. As things stand now, officials are working overtime to meet the deadline given by Mangaluru City South MLA J R Lobo, who had said that the children’s day celebration this year will be held at the renovated Town Hall.

A statement by mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred in the general meeting of MCC council last Saturday had confirmed that the work is progressing well and scheduled for completion in October.

The civil works on the Town Hall is nearly complete and work of installing tiles and granite will be taken up once the water-proofing work is done. Likewise, the work on catwalk and false ceiling too is under progress. Works leading to installing of acoustic paneling, stage curtains too are also being carried out, the mayor said, adding that this work will be completed by September-end. The work of fabricating the seats is underway at the workshop and 50% work has been completed, she said.

Noting that the seats will be in place by October 15, the mayor said that the work of installing equipment for air-conditioning and related wall paneling work has been completed. Steps have been taken to ensure that the work of air-conditioning will be taken up soon, she said, adding that even this work will be completed before September 30.

The process of installing cable for the generator is under progress. Simultaneously, work relating to paneling for generator cable too has been taken up.

Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has invited short-term tenders for sundry work, such as ensuring water supply, providing underground drainage network, generator room, laying interlock for parking area, and asphalting the courtyard.

The mayor said these works will be completed by October and the civic body will inaugurate the renovated Town Hall during the first week of November. The Town Hall initially was scheduled to be renovated and inaugurated in December 2014.

Well we expect a good and a fully furnished Town Hall. It is the property of the public and we have to preserve its beauty foe ever. All the cultural program mes are being conducted and we enjoy it .
