Mangaluru , Dec 09, 2016 : The street vendors of Mangaluru have finally got a special zone for themselves. The Street Vendors’ Zone that has come up at the Yakshagana ground near Town Hall on December 9, Friday was inaugurated by Mayor K Harinath.
In his address, the Mayor said that a longstanding demand of the street vendors has been realised with the inauguration of the separate zone for them. He said the Zone has come up in accordance to a Supreme Court directive in this regard to ensure proper rehabilitation of street vendors.
He informed that the land has been provided to the street vendors in this prime area with much difficulty and added that of the 216 registered street vendors, 208 have been issued ID cards so far. Street vendors should make good use of the facility provided to them, he added.
MCC Commissioner Mohammad Nazir said the City Corporation administration had done a good job by providing this prime land for the benefit of the street vendors. He also urged the street vendors to keep the surroundings clean.
