Mangaluru, Mar 10, 2017 : St Aloysius College (Autonomous) celebrated its annual college day “College Day 137”with the theme “Rowing into the deep”on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 5:30pm in the college grounds. The chief guest for the occasion was Sri V. G. Siddhartha, founder and CEO of Café Coffee Day and Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, Rector, St Aloysius College Institutions, presided over the function. The showcase of the Annual College Report 2016-17 presented by Rev. Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ, Principal of St Aloysius College marked the beginning of the formal function of the celebration.

In his chief guest address, Shri.V. G. Siddhartha spoke about how it is necessary that the youngsters of today help build the economy of the country. He said, “You have to think big, no one wants to be a loser in life. When we fear that we will fail, we will do extra work and survive. So, start working towards it.” Adding to it, he said, “We should be humble even when we succeed. Success should not go to our head, because that is when our downfall begins.”


In his presidential address, Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ said that when love and skill work together, we should expect a masterpiece. He also said, “Great works are not performed by strength, but by perseverance.” Speaking on the core values of human beings, he said, “Generosity and humility are the two most important badges you will wear through life.” He officially acknowledged the Principal designate, Rev. Fr Praveen Martis SJ, Campus Minister and Director of DDU Kaushal Kendra, who was felicitated by the Principal, Rev. Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ.


On the occasion of his superannuation, Rev. Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ, the principal of the college was felicitated for his contribution to the college during his tenure by the chief guest of the day, Shri.V. G. Siddharthaalongwith the dignitaries present on the dais.More than 250 prizes were awarded to the students who were rank holders and those who achieved excellence in sports and extra-curricular activities.


The formal function was followed by a cultural display presented by the students exhibiting themes like “The Culture and Heritage of India” as well as “Modern-Contemporary fusion.”


Mr John Sherra, Convenor of the function welcomed the gathering and Ms Michelle D’Souza, President of the Students’ Council proposed the vote of thanks.
