Mangaluru, Sep 08, 2015: Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar has informed that the BJP will organise a Raitha Chaithanya Yatre at the Brahmashree Narayana Guru Mandir near BC Road on September 11 under the leadership of State party President Prahlad Joshi to  prevail upon the government to find solution to the problems of the farming community.

Speaking to reporters at the District BJP office here on September 8, Tuesday, Nalin said the programme has been organised in the wake of the several cases of suicides of farmers reported in the past few months mainly owing to drought and debt burden. The state government has been sleeping over this pressing issue, he alleged.

Nalin also claimed that the previous state government  under the leadership of Yeddyurappa had strived sincerely to solve the problems of the farmers by offering special packagers as well as zero interest loans.

However, the failure  of the present state government to submit a detailed report  on the condition of farmers in the state has deprived it of the  Rs 1600 crore which it ought to have  received out of the Rs 6000 crore funds sanctioned by the Centre for the distressed sugarcane growers, he alleged.

He further accused the Chief Minister of failing to respond to the problems of the farmers. On the Yettinahole project, Nalin said he has already written to Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati to intervene and ensure that the project was dropped.

Admitting that the project was given a go ahead during the BJP regime, he questioned why the state government had not thought of  dropping it at a time when it had cancelled several  other beneficial programmes introduced by the BJP government.

Ganesh Karnik, MLC, Monappa Bhandari, Krishna J Palemar, former minister and others were present at the press meet.
