Mangaluru, Dec 16, 2015:  Addressing the protesters, farmers’ leader K Yadav Shetty said several inhuman practices like ’Bettale Seve’ and ’Devadasi’ system were earlier justified in spite of opposition in the name of belief and culture. Several inhuman practices have been banned following severe opposition from progressive organisations, he said.

The members of Karnataka Dalita Hakkugala Samithi, Mangaluru, staged a protest opposing ’Made Snana’ and ’Ede Snana’ at Kukke Subrahmanya temple, in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Dec 15, Tuesday.

Vasudeva Ucchil of Samudaya stressed on the need to oppose inhuman customs.

About 180 members of CPM are facing a court case for opposing pankthibeda that is being practised in Udupi, he said.

DC’s says : DK DC Adoor B Ibrahim clarified that as per the court direction, instead of ’Made Snana’ the devotees can take part in ’Ede Snana’, during Champa Shashti Mahotsava at Kukke Subrahmanya temple till Dec 17, Thursday.  The Assistant Commissioner of Puttur has been camping at the temple to ensure that ’Made Snana’ is not practised at the temple and there is no violation of court direction.  The DK SP too visited the temple and police security has been in place.
