The protest was organised mainly to oppose the recent Cadre and Recruitment Rule. The teachers allege that this rule discriminated against them as according to the  rule  primary school graduate teachers who were earlier teaching from classes 1 to 8 will be allowed to teach only from classes 1 to 5. This the Teachers Association is alleging was tantamount to demotion.

The teachers are demanding that the existing  C&R rules for primary school graduate teachers should be merged with the C&R rules of teachers appointed for classes 6 to 8.

Staney Tauro, President of High School Assistant Teachers Association  said the teachers will boycott Teachers day on September 5 and organise a  Vidhana Saudha Chalo if demands are not fulfilled.

Shivashanker Bhat K, President of DK District Committee of State Primary School Teachers Association   and others spoke on the occasion.

A memorandum enlisting various demands of the teachers was forwarded to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner.
