Mangaluru: Police force won’t be saffronized’

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Nov 10, 2015: Karnataka Home minister G Parameshwara has frowned on claims of right-wing organizations that police personnel in coastal districts are sympathetic to them. A recent sting operation carried out by a news portal saw BJP and other right-wing functionaries claim the police constabulary is with them. Their writ runs large in the functioning of police, they maintained.

G Parameshwara...Recruitments are carried out on the basis of physical abilities and a written test for applicants. "We do not see if the applicant worships a particular deity when recruitments are done," the minister said. Men and women in khaki are bound by the department’s rules.

The sting operation, reported by a section of media, led minorities organizations to demand an inquiry into allegations made by the BJP and other leaders.

Minister Parameshwara said the government is committed to keeping morale of the 1-lakh-strong police force high. "If the rank and file of the department, starting from constable, are in fine fettle, the state of law and order..., too, will be good."
