Mangaluru, Oct 02, 2015: DK Deputy Commissioner Adoor .B. Ibrahim at a meeting on Oct 1, directed officials to clear pending dues of stipend to endosulfan victims by October 7. They had threatened to stage a protest over delay in paymentHe also directed officials to ensure payment of stipend by the 7th of every month.
The victims, disappointed over the delay in payment of stipend, had threatened agitation in Bengaluru. Of the 3,618 endosulfan victims in Dakshina Kannada, stipend was being paid to 2,639 victims.
The Directorate of Social Security and Pensions has now been entrusted to pay the stipend through the District Treasury. In the meeting held with tahsildars and taluk health officers on Thursday, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumara said except for 368 victims, others have received the stipend for July and August.
Reasons : Reasons for non-payment included mismatch of name of the victim with the account number of victim’s guardian to which the amount has to be credited. There are also cases where the victims have failed to provide the complete 14 digits of their account numbers. These victims have not received stipend for July and August.
DC Ibrahim directed tahisildars to complete the verification process and resolve problems related to 368 persons in the next two days. DC asked tahsildars and the district treasury officer to ensure that these 368 persons get the pending two months of stipend. The stipend for the month of September should also be credited to them by October 7.
