Mangaluru, May 4, 2015:  In the first of fourth day of the 19th Federation Cup National Senior Athletics Championship Karnataka and Army medal tally tied up at 84.5 followed by Kerala.

Aemy’s G Laxmanan Laxmanan won the gold medal Men’s 10km Race at Mangala Stadium here, on May 4. This is the second gold medal he won this event. 


In the Women’s 10km race, L Surya (TN) won the gold medal clocking 34:42, while Sanjeevini Baburao Jadhav (MAH) won the silver medal and Swati Haribhau Gadhave (MAH) won the bronze.


In the evening session 15 more gold medal will be decided including events like 100 meter, 200 meter, 800 meter, 1500 meter and relay events.  The four relay events will decide the champion of the sports event at the end of penultimate day. 


 “I am happy with the result. But, today the weather was not as good as during the 5k race. I could have done better. I will prepare for the Asian Track & Field and will aim for the gold medal” , Laxmanan said.


G Laxmanan trained at the Army Sports Institute and undergoes a strict conditioning coaching from Olympian Surender Singh, who holds the national record (28:02.89) in the event.

 “I am happy that I won, but sad at the same time since I did not qualify forATF. I was slow by a minute, and I did not practice much. I will do better next time”, surya said.

The qualifying time of the women’s 10km race is 33:40. Surya’s personal best is 33:56, which she made last year during the Delhi Open Nationals.
