Mangaluru-Karkala NH upgradation works to commence this year

Mangaluru, March 22, 2016: The project to upgrade the 41 km stretch of road between Mangaluru and Karkala on the NH 169 will be taken up during the  current year. The road between Mangaluru to Moodbidri will be a four-lane road while from Moodbidri to Karkala, the road would be two-lane.

This was informed  by the Project Director of National Highway Authority of India at a meeting held at the  Netravathi Hall of DK Zilla Panchayat on March 21, Monday under the president ship of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.

It was also informed that a bypass would be constructed at Gurupur apart from a new bridge. The tender process is in progress and  amount to be provided as compensation towards acquisition of land has already been released. It was further stated that the project would be complete in 18 months.

Abdul Rehaman, Assistant Executive Engineer of the National Highway Department  informed that a proposal for Rs 239 crores has been submitted to the Union Government towards the concretisation of a 15 km stretch of road on Charmady Ghat. The  Government has directed to take up this work once the Shiradi Ghat works are complete, he added.

A Detailed Project Report of Shiradi Ghat Tunnelway project has been  submitted to the Centre, informed the officials.

The task of construction of service road  near the BC Road Toll Gate and also on the NH 66 at Suratkal and Kottara are underway and would be completed by May end,  officials stated.
