Mangaluru, Aug 03, 2015 : Mangaluru is reeling under acute water shortage since the past two days with taps going dry after two main water supply pipelines at Kannur burst on August 1, Saturday. Presently repair works are underway on a war footing under the supervision of MCC officials and authorities have assured to restore water supply at the earliest once the pipeline repair works are complete.
The pipelines of 18 mgd capacity each which supply water from the Thumbay dam burst all of a sudden resulting in flooding in the area.
If Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred along with officials had inspected the works on August 2, Sunday, Mangaluru South MLA JR Lobo visited the spot on August 3 Monday and assured that the repair works would be completed at the earliest. He said dumping of mud over the pipelines might have exerted pressure on the pipeline resulting in the incident. He also warned of action against those responsible for the same.
The MLA stated that 60 per cent repair works are over with the repair of one of the two ruptured pipelines complete. The other pipe would be repaired soon, he assured.
Even Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred has assured Mangalureans that water supply would be restored to normalcy as soon as the works are over.
