Mangaluru, Nov 1, 2016 : Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated with gaiety and fervour at the Nehru Maidan here on November 1 on behalf of the District Administration. The programme commenced with the rendering of the state anthem or Naada Geethe followed by the hoisting of the national tri-colour by chief guest B Ramanatha Rai, the DK District In-charge Minister. He later inspected a colourful parade organized to mark the occasion.
In his address, Rai elaborated on the various welfare and developmental programmes implemented by the Karnataka Government in Dakshina Kannada. He also stressed the need to protect the tradition and culture and language of this great land called Karnataka.
Rai said the Ksheera Bhagya scheme of the government has benefitted 2.39 lakh children. while Endosulfan victims have received a compensation of Rs 32 lakhs during the current year.
The Minister conferred district level Rajyotsava Awards to as many as 22 achievers on the occasion.
Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesha, Mayor Harinath, City Police Commissioner Chandra Sekhar, SP Bhushan Borase, Ivan D’Souza, Chief Whip of State Legislative Council, JR Lobo, Moidin Bava, MLAs and a host of dignitaries were present.
A Kannada Bhuvaneshwari procession with attractive tableaux was taken out from Jyothi Circle to the function venue. Children also presented an attractive cultural programme.
