Mangaluru, Nov 01, 2015: Karnataka Rajyotsava was celebrated with great fervour at a colourful ceremony held at the Nehru Maidan on November 1, Sunday under the aegis of the District Administration. DK District in-charge Minister hoisted the flag and received the guard of honour from the Civil, Traffic Police, NCC Air, Naval and Army wings, KSRP and Fire Service personnel who presented an attractive march past.
A total of 21 achievers in diverse field were conferred the District level Rajyotsava Awards 2015 on the occasion.
In his address, Rai said each and every Kannadiga has the utmost responsibility of protecting and promoting Kannada language, literature and culture. Kannada is the binding factor of Karnataka, he said and urged youngsters to develop a love for their language.
Rai also made use of the opportunity to elaborate on the achievements as well as the projects initiated by the government. He said the government has allocated Rs 46 crores for the implementation of Anna Bhagya scheme in DK district during 2015-16.
Rai also stated that a new dedicated jetty would come up at old port in Mangaluru at a cost of Rs 50 crore. Works on the nearly 8000 sq ft jetty will begin as soon as necessary clearances are secured, he added.
Rai also informed on the occasion that tender works were underway for the new DC office project at Padil. The office will come up on a 5.8 acre land at a cost of Rs 41 crore, he added.
He further stated that the second phase of Shiradi Ghat road works will be taken up soon and works on the pending 11.77 km stretch of road would be completed.
Rai further informed that an International Children’s Film Festival has been organised at Pilikula Nisargadhama for the very first time on November 14 and 15 to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim, IGP Amrit Paul, SP Dr Sharanappa, ZP CEO Shreevidya, Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred, Deputy Mayor Purushottam Chitrapur, Legislators JR Lobo, Moidin Bava, Ivan D’Souza and others were present.
A colourful procession depicting the richness of Kannada language, art and culture and featuring several tableaux was taken out from Ambedkar Circle to Nehru Maidan prior to the function. The procession was jointly organised by the DK district Kannada Sahitya Parishad and the District Administration.
