Mangaluru, Dec 15, 2016 : Veteran dance teacher K Muraleedhara Rao, 93,conferred Karnataka Rajyotsava Award by Minister for Kannada and culture Umashree on December 15, Thursday at Santhan Natyalaya. Due to age-related illness, Rao could not make it to the function in Bengaluru on November 01. Following this, the minister conferred the award on the veteran in the city today.
After several years of service to the field of classical dance in Mysuru,Rao is currently living in Mangaluru But he was basically from Kasargod.
Umashree said Rao, who taught classical dance to innumerable disciples, is a treasure of knowledge on Indian dances. "Born as a member of a yakshagana family, Rao made his entry into classical dance and is successful in various experiments in the field.
