Mangaluru, Jan 19, 2021: The city police have cracked the December 14 incident wherein a head constable on duty was attacked with a machete near the New Chitra Junction in the city and have arrested eight persons. It has been now learnt that this was an attack to avenge the December 19 police firing that took place during the anti-CAA protest in 2019.
It may be recalled here that Ganesh Kamath, a head constable attached to Bunder Police station was injured in the December 14 attack.
City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar who held a press meet at his office on January 19, Tuesday has furnished details relating to the case. He said the accused were unhappy over the police firing incident of 2019 and resorted to the attack on the police constable. The Commissioner said the accused who attacked the cops was a 16 year old minor.
The names of the arrested persons has been given as Mohammad Qayis, Rahil alias Chotu Rahil, Sheikh Mohammad Harris, Abdul Khader Fahad, Anish Ashraf and Mohammad Nawaz.
