The solemn occasion commenced with Eucharistic Celebration held at Milagres Church in the afternoon. Thereafter the Eucharistic Procession to Rosario Cathedral was an orderly and prayerful affair in which thousands of faithful of Mangalore Diocese took part in admirable  devotion. Most Rev.Dr. Aloysius Paul DSouza the Bishop of Mangalore Diocese presided. Rev. .Antony Sera, the Parish Priest of Bendur preached the homily on the theme ’Mary, the Eucharistic Woman’ highlighting her role Christian Life.

The Bishop in his address said that this year is declared as the year of Rosary with two specific motives. Firstly,  Rosario  the oldest church in the region was established near the present edifice in 1568 and has completed 450 years of it’s existence. This Church began as a small Chapel, in January 1568, 450 years ago, not far from the present Cathedral opposite the spot where the rivers merge with the Sea or ’Alive Bagilu’. To commemorate this great event, the year of Rosary is declared. Secondly, this year is the year of elections in the State. So Bishop requested all the faithful to pray the Rosary so that out State gets a good government. Many public did recall that the choice is between two evils as great people point out.

Bishop also specified that this is the 51st year of Eucharistic Procession which was begun by late Bishop Basil Salvadore DSouza. Bishop congratulated all the the faithful who made all matters in the local church possible and in a spirit of ’Good will’.
