Mangaluru, April 08, 2021: A workshop on "Yakshagana- Rethinking in the light of the present" will be held at the LCRI Hall of St Aloysius College on April 10 with the co-operation of Karnataka Yakshagana Academy and UGC-STRIDE Scheme.
This was informed to reporters here on April 8, Thursday by Fr Dr Praveen Martis S J, Principal of St Aloysius College. The workshop will be inaugurated by Venkataramana Aithal, former principal of Neenasam, Heggodu while eminent folk scholar Prof Chinnappa Gowda will be the chief guest.
M A Hegde, Chairman of Yakshagana Academy, Dr Alwyn D’Sa, Registrar (in-charge) and co-ordinator of UGC-Stride and Fr Dr Praveen Martis, Principal will be the chief guests.
The workshop and dialogue aims at creating a platform for an open-minded discussion on Yakshagana. The workshop will have two sessions with Prof Nithyananda B Shetty from Tumkur University and senior thinker and scholar Lakshmeesha Tolpadi to be the resource persons in the morning session and Dr A Narayana from Azim Premji University, Bengaluru and Prof K Sripada Bhat from the English Department of Goa University as resource persons in the afternoon session.
The College Yaksha Team accompanied by guest artistes will present an experimental Yakshagana based on the Shakespearean play Macbeth at the Mother Teresa Peace Park, the open air stage of the College at 6 pm. Veteran Yakshagana artiste Soorikumeri K Govinda Bhat has been instrumental in bringing this play to Yakshagana.
