Mangaluru: Cyclists take out awareness rally against Yettinahole Project

Mangaluru, October 4, 2015:  Members of the Mangalore Cycling Club (MACC)  and Mangalore Bicycle Club (MBC) sporting  T-shirts with slogans ’Save Netravathi’ took out an awareness  cycle rally from Lalbagh upto the Netravathi Bridge near Ullal on October 4, Sunday to sensitize the society regarding the drastic consequences of the Yettinahole Integrated Drinking Water Project. The rally was flagged off by Dinesh Holla, artist and convenor of the Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya.

Over 50 cyclists including many women actively took part in the rally organised for a good cause. Speaking to the  participants after the culmination of the rally, Dr Niranjan Rai, Convenor of the Anti-Neravathi River Diversion Action Committee  suspected a hidden agenda behind the keenness of the government to implement the project. The Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Ltd which has not yet completed the implementation of the Varahi Irrigation Project is also taking up the Yettinahole Project which reveals that this project is nothing but an attempt to loot public money, he alleged.
