Mangalaluru, Nov 10, 2014: Reports are rife that Congress MLC Ivan D’Souza had to apologise and retract his statement refering to the former Minister K.S. Eswarappa’s wife while criticising the latter’s statement referring to the daughters of Chief Minister Siddararamiah and Home Minister K.J. George.
It may be recalled, speaking to reporters earlier on Nov 8, Saturday, the MLC took exception to Eshwarappa’s reference to the daughters of Siddaramaiah and George while criticising Government’s alleged slackness in the case of the death of the 14-year-old school girl in Thirthahalli. MLC D’Souza also went to on make a reference to the wife of Eshwarappa.
Journalists at the press meet took exception and said it was demeaning women. MLC Ivan said that he wanted Eshwarappa to exercise restraint and tender a public apology for making such a statement. “If he does not do, we will be forced to file a defamation case against him,” he said.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G. Parameshwar reportedly called up MLC D’Souza and pulled him up for making the statement. Parameshwar expressed an apology on behalf of MLC D’Souza in Bengaluru. D’Souza then called a press meet and apologised for making such statement. “I express my apology to Eshwarappa, his family and to the public for the harm that my statement has caused. I will henceforth not make any such statements.”
Ivan D’Souza said he made the statement in the heat of the moment and he regretted it. He has communicated it to . Siddaramaiah and Parameshwar, he added. The MLC said he has not heard of any notice issued on this issue.
