Mangaluru, June 13, 2020: The District unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has decided to hold a dharna at all taluk headquarters in the district and also in different places of Mangaluru taluk on June 16 urging the government to solve the problems faced by the common people due to lockdown.
Informing this to reporters here, Vasanth Achari, District Secretary of CPI(M) alleged that the local MP and MLAs had behaved in a dictatorial fashion during lockdown and accused them of neglecting the district administration.
Highlighting the inconveniences faced by the labourers and the poor due to lockdown, Achari also enlisted the various demands of his party. He said all families outside the Income Tax net should get a direct cash benefit of Rs 7,500 per month for the next six months and every individual belonging to such families should get 10 kg food grain free of cost for the next six months.
Under the Employment Guarantee scheme the workers should get a minimum of 200 days of work with increased minimum wages, he said and added that the party demands unemployment allowance and end to privatisation of public sector undertakings. The party will also demand supply of all essentials including ventilators to the health care sector to facilitate fight against Covid-19.
