Mangaluru : Beedi workers picket EPF office

Mangaluru, Mar 13, 2018: Members of the DK District Beedi Workers Federation affiliated to the CITU  picketed the EPF  office in Mangaluru on March 13, Tuesday  demanding PF facilities to the workers after rectifying their provident fund and pension  related documents.

 

Addressing the protestors, CPM District Secretary Vasantha Achari said   the poor beedi workers, many of whom did not know their date of birth had not provided the same when joining work, but are now finding it difficult as Aadhar has been made mandatory for Central Government amenities. Accordingly, the workers have t o link their Aadhar number with their PF  account. But  for want of documents many beedi workers are struggling. There is a need for a permanent  solution to the same, he added

Sunil Kumar Bajal, District General Secretary of CITU   urged  to simplify procedures to avail pension for beedi workers.

Beedi Workers Union and  CITU  leaders U B Lokayya, Sadashiva Das,   Muneer Katipalla, B K Imtiyaz  and others were present on the occasion.
