Mangaluru, Sep 19, 2015: Nitte University and Mangalore Basketball Club had invited the Indian Basketball men’s team, which will play in 28th FIBA Asia Basketball championship at Chanesha, China from September 23. Children, being initiated in basketball, were thrilled to see Indian Basketball giants at Mangala Indoor Stadium Sept 18.
Speaking to media, Senior Indian Basketball Team FIBA Asia championship Coach Sat Prakash Yadav said that India would maintain its 11th ranking or definitely try to improve it. The 16-member team including 12 players and team staff would leave Bengaluru on September 20 night and reach Chanesha the following day. After one-day practice, the team will counter Malaysia on September 23 and Japan on September 24.
There are more chances against these two teams, hard work is needed to win against Iran. Last time it was bitter experience against them. The coach said that Santnam Singh would be the star attraction of the camp. Amritpal Singh and Amjoyth Singh, who are first Indians to play Japan league are star players of the team. There are two players from Karnataka- Aravind and Rajesh Uppar. Matches would be held from September 23 to October 3.
Basketball leagues : The Indian Basketball needs good coaching as well as money. If there is any plan like Basketball league, it would be great for the game. Many would invest money in the game and foreign players would also play in India, which naturally boosts the Indian talents, he said.
Yadav said that coaching camp arranged at Nitte from August 1 was fantastic. Players need good court, accommodation and food. Everything was provided there. The flooring was nice and they provided AC accommodation. In the two-month camp, 12 players have been selected among 20. Dr Nikhil of Nitte University was the physician for the players during the camp, he said. All players of the team, coach Sebastian were present.
