Mangaluru Mar 29, 2016: BJP staged a protest in front of the DC office on March 29, Tuesday against the sand scarcity in the district.
Addressing the protestors BJP leader Ravishankar Mijaar said that it has been 2 months since sand is unavailable in the district due to which construction workers are rendered jobless. Even construction works as well as the repair works of buildings taken up prior to monsoons have been hampered due to sand shortage, he alleged.
Corporator Sudhir Shetty accused the district administration and Congress led state government for the problem. Pointing out that sand is being smuggled to Kerala, he alleged that some Congress workers were backing the illegal activity.
While house construction works have been affected even development works are withheld owing to scarcity of sand, said Sudhir.
Deputy Mayor Sumithra, Corporator Roopa D Bangera and others were present.
