Mangaluru, June 22, 2015: The district unit of the BJP staged a protest in front of the MCC building at Lalbagh in Mangaluru on June 22, Monday to condemn the recent transfer of Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati and also the suspension of the Town Hall renovation works.
Speaking on the occasion, Sudhir Shetty, Opposition leader in MCC said the suspension of the Town Hall renovation works since ten months has hit hard many who otherwise find it most convenient to organise cultural programmes there. The petty politics resorted to by the Congress has converted Town Hall into a virtual dump yard, he alleged.
Shetty also lashed out at the Congress administration for frequent transfer of Commissioners in Mangaluru. The city has seen the transfer of as many as four Commissioners in a span of just 15 months, he said and blamed internal politics of the Congress for the transfer of Hephsiba.
Krishna J Palemar, former minister who also spoke alleged that development has come to a standstill in Mangaluru and warned of a severe protest if things were not set right.
Former MLC Monappa Bhandary criticized Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred for not convening a meeting to discuss measures to combat monsoon eventualities.
Party leaders also forwarded a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner on the occasion.
