Mangaluru, Sep 4,2015 : The protests against the implementation of the Yetinahole Project are gaining momentum in the district with the Netravathi Samrakshana Samithi along with other like-minded organizations staging a protest in front of the DC office on September 3, Thursday.
Addressing the protestors, Dinesh Holla, President of the Samithi said the Samithi will pose ten questions to elected representatives at a meeting to be organised by it on September 19. If the answers are satisfactory, then the protest will be dropped or else the government should drop the project, he informed. He further said the Samithi is striving its level best to pressurise he government to drop the project. He also hinted at the plans of the Government to secretly draw water from Kumaradhara for the project as per the recommendations of the Paramashivaiah report.
Criticising the silence of the people of the district, he said the silence of the locals has only emboldened the government to go ahead with this project.
Another activist Kateel Dinesh Pai who also spoke, lashed out at MLA of Mangaluru South JR Lobo for pretending ignorance regarding the IISc report on Yettinahole Project.
A Sakleshpur man Abhinav attracted the attention of many by arriving at the protest venue on a horseback and said he aims to create awareness among the people regarding the ill-effects of the project.
Ramachander Baikampady, Yogish Shety of Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike and others spoke.
A street play on the ill-effects of the project was also staged by students.
