Mangaluru Airport Bomb case: Court extends judicial custody of Aditya Rao for two more weeks

Mangaluru, Feb 1, 2020: Serial hoax bomb caller Aditya Rao was remanded two more weeks police custody on being produced before the Sixth Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Saturday, February 1.

Aditya Rao surrendered before police Tuesday, January 21 after planting explosives at Mangalore International Airport on Monday, January 20. Sixth Judicial First Class Magistrate Court Judge allowed the plea of the police seeking his custody for further investigation.

Adithya Rao, 36, a native of KHB Colony in Manipal  is an engineering graduate and MBA holder, he worked in various private firms, mutt, in hotels as a security officer. He kept the ’live’ explosive device in a bag near a ticket counter of the departure gate of the airport in Mangaluru on January 20, triggering a scare before it was defused at a nearby open ground.

From the past ten days, the police took the Aditya Rao to several places in the city and Udupi where he had frequently visited in the past months. Police had  recovered a box from his bank locker at Udupi that contained a white powder which he claimed was cyanide. The substance has been sent to the Forensic Science laboratory for confirmation, police said.

He was also taken to the room where he stayed while he was working at a hotel Mangaluru and to a hardware workshop from where he had purchased some spare parts, they said.
