Mangaluru: 6 Crores worth Cash and Gold looted from Bhagavathi Co-oporative Bank, B C Road Branch

Mangaluru, Jan 12: Sending shock waves in B C Road, unidentified burglars decamped with a booty of Rs 6 Crores worth Cash and Gold from a Bagavathi co-operative bank, BC Road branch late night on Sunday, January 11, 2015 after disconnecting the burglary alarm.

 

 

 

 

 

The incident came to light on Monday morning when the Manager of the Bank arrived to open the branch at 9.30 AM. When he opened the branch, he saw the safe locker was open. The thieves had broke open the safe locker and looted the cash and gold stored in it. Six-and-a-half kg of gold ornaments and Rs. 1.4 lakh was lost in the burglary. Further probing, the Manager found the grill of a side window was cut open to make entry to the bank. He immediately called the police and lodged a complaint.
 
Dakshina Kannada S P, Sharanappa and a team of police personals have visited the Bank. After the preliminary investigation SP Sharanappa said that the bank authorities have not installed any security systems which helped the robbers’ loot and escaped easily. However he said, his team is confident of catching the thieves within a short time.

The bank did not even have a security guard during the night or CCTVs installed in or outside the bank premises.

 

Mr. Sharanappa said the incident was a reminder to all other banking institutions to strengthen their security systems.

“I hope institutions take steps for prevention of such incidents.” They need to install movement sensors in their branches, he added.
