Mangaluru, April 10, 2017 : The Third Additional District Sessions Court in Mangaluru, has in a significant judgement on April 10, Monday  convicted  three persons  who were arrested in  2008 on terror charges and for having links with Indian Mujahideen.

Those convicted are  Sayyed Mohammad Naushad, Ahmed Bava Aboobakker and Fakir Ahmed. The Court will announce the quantum of punishment on April 12.

Meanwhile , seven  others namely Maulana  Shabeer Bhatkal, Javed Ali, his father Mohammad Ali and Rafique who too were arrested on similar charges were  acquitted for want of suitable evidences. Here it is worth mentioning that three main accused namely Riyaz Bhatkal Iqbal and Mudassir are absconding.

It was on October 3, 2008 that Javed and Mohammad Ali were arrested from their house in Ullal  by the Mumbai  Police, Dakshina Kannada Police and ANF of Karnataka. Five others namely Syed Mohammad, Ahmed Bava alias Aboobakker, Mohammad Rafique, Maulana Shabbir  and Fakir Ahmed were later arrested. Of them four were released on bail.
