Mangaluru, June 15, 2015: Another Sunday and Ramakrishna Mission’s 20th Swacch Mangaluru for Swacch Bharath — cleanliness drive at Mangaladevi Temple and surroundings was an enthusiastic activity.
Sriram Transport Finance staff, Yuva Brigade, devotees, citizen volunteers and well-wishers of the RK Ashrama activated the hype which has become a magnet.
The Mangaladevi Temple road, temple surroundings were spruced up, tons of garbage dumped near the temple religiously removed. The littered footpaths were cleared facilitating easy movement. Sign boards which had lost their direction were cleaned and repainted.
Handbills distributed by our volunteers among the public in the locality hoped to imbibe awareness. MRPL, was the principal patron and sponsor for this week’s initiative.
Ramakrishna Mission announced the Abhiyan will take a break of about eight weeks due the onset of monsoon and heavy rains. During this time the Ashrama will focus more on conducting competitions for school and college students thus creating an awareness among the younger generation about Swacch Bharath.
The drive was inaugurated by Ramanath Hegde, Mangaladevi temple President and Sharat Chandra, DGM, Sriram Transport Finance in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji and Capt Ganesh Karnik in front of Mangaladevi Temple.
KV Sathyanarayana, Harish Achar, Shobhoday Alva, Satish Bhat, Vijayalakshmi, Rathna Alva, Mani Rai, Bharathi Bhat and several other eminent people were present during the occasion. This is a part of the 40 weeks Cleanliness Drive being organized by the Ramakrishna Mission and initiated on the February 1.
