Mangalore rose in wild celebration on World Cup championship

Mangalore, April 2: Mangalore city leapt up in joy when India won the coveted World Cup and became the World champions. There were fireworks and cheers all over the city. Delirious fans broke into unprecedented celebrations across the city, setting off fireworks and partying hard on the streets savouring glory as India won the cricket World Cup.

 

 

 

 

Enthusiasts cricket fans, mad with joy that India won, organized rallies in Jeppu, Kankanady, Hampankatta, Karangalpady, Bunder, MG Road, Bejai, and many other places. They distributed sweets at several points in the city, and young men could be observed flying the Indian flag and yelling slogans such as “Bharat Matha Ki Jai” and “Jai Jai India.”

On the day of the crucial match, the city looked deserted without hundreds and thousands of people staying at home to watch the match either in their homes or at TV showrooms, shops, bars, and restaurants. Although business was down, nobody cared. Everybody who cared about cricket was glued to their television sets, letting out lout cheers whenever India played well.

 

 

A victory march was held across Kankanady, and the historic event was celebrated with the bursting of crackers and drum beats. The jubilant crowd even blocked traffic in their joy. Fans in Marnamikatte went mad with joy and celebrated wildly, holding up national flags. 

The landmarks of Mangalore such as City Centre, Bharat Mall, and Empire Mall was packed with cricket fans celebrating when India finally won its second one-day World Cup after 28 long years.
