Mangalore lawyers demand protection following Delhi High Court blast

Mangalore, Sept 8, 2011: The lawyers of Mangalore have demanded better security on the premises of the local court after the blast at Delhi High Court, which killed around 12 people on Wednesday besides leaving many others injured.

Several lawyers wore red ribbons and organized a protest under the banner of the Mangalore Bar Association today in front of the court. They raised their voice against the blast at the Delhi High Court and demanded better security at the local court.

 

S. P.Chengappa, the president of the Bar Association, said that Mangalore is a soft target for anti social elements, owing to which there is need for better security including metal detectors, CCTVs, security guards, and so on.

Recalling the brutal murder of advocate Naushad Kashmiji, he said that another advocate Preetham went missing under mysterious circumstances and has still not been found. He also said that around 12 advocates in the city have been threatened by fugitives from justice recently and only two of them have been provided police protection.

Further, he said that the police are least bothered about lawyers’ complaints regarding safety issues.
