Mangalore, Nov 18: “Although Mangalore is the home of young, promising cricket players, it lacks good infrastructure and training facilities,” said Syed Kirmani, the best wicket keeper of India. He was speaking at a press conference organized by the Karnataka State Cricket Association at Mangalore Club, Morgans’ Gate on Nov 18, Wednesday.

The press conference was organized during the re-launch of the Karnataka Cricket Academy at State Association on Nov 17, Tuesday. Mr. Kirmani said that, although the academy was established 4-5 years ago, it remained inactive owing to lack of sponsors. Therefore, it had to be re-launched. 

The association has selected a team of 20 young and enthusiastic boys from Mangalore, Udupi, and Madikeri. All these boys have been given a chance to play in various matches. Kirmani informed press people that the team will be trained for a period of 8 days at Nehru Maidan. 

He said that a youngster must properly trained before being chosen for the cricket team. He also stressed the necessity for proper grooming before choosing the team. 

Chief Coaches K Jaswant and R Ananth, along with Syed Kirmani who is to train the team, were present at the press conference.
