Mangalore, Feb 14, 2013: A  Rs 6.04 lakh surplus budget with an anticipated revenue of Rs 257.60 crore for the year 2013-14 was presented  at the Mangalore City Corporation meeting held here on February 14,  Thursday. This is the last meeting under the mayorship of Gulzar Banu.


Presenting the budget, R Shantha, Chairperson of MCC Standing Committee for Tax, Finance and Appeal, said the corporation anticipated a revenue of Rs 35 crore from water bills, Rs 29 crore from property tax, Rs 15 crore by way of solid waste fees and Rs 7.26 crore by way of developmental fees.

She said the MCC plans to  invest all the funds for various developmental works with aid of government grants.


She said of the revenue, Rs  Rs25 crore would be spent towards solid waste management, Rs17.95 crore towards welfare schemes, Rs 2.5 crore for staff expenses,  Rs 3 crore for the new vented dam and Rs 8.96 crore for corporation’s annual maintenance. She also said the new vented dam would be ready by March 2014.


She said eight contractors have been awarded contract for door to door waste collection in various parts of the city and that the three package scientific waste disposal system  would be implemented soon.


Reservation announced : As per the Urban Development Ministry notification,  50 per cent of the seats in MCC will be reserved for women in the next corporation limits.  Of the 60 seats, 30 will be reserved for women belonging to BC A and  B, categories,  SC, ST and general categories.
