Mangalore, Apr 5: “Sadhan Shembhor,” the 100th Moinyali Manchi of Mandd Sobhann organized at Kalaangan, presented the audience with the choicest of Konkani music dating over a span of 110 years. The programme commenced at 6 p.m. Anuradha Paduwal, the leading Hindi singer, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Her presence attracted a large number of people to Kalaangan.

Anuradha Paduwal gave a brief speech in which she congratulated Mandd Sobhann for fostering Konkani dance, music, and folk art. She also said that she is proud to be a Konkani by birth and will be glad to support the cause of Konkani. 

Eric Ozerio, the gurkhar of Mandd Sobhann, said that the 100th Moinyali Manchi is a great achievement on the part of Mandd Sobhann, of which the organization is proud. He expressed gratefulness to people for making this Moinyali Manchi a great success. He informed the audience that Mandd Sobhann’s Moinyali Manchi has provided the opportunity for more than 2000 artists from various parts of India during the past decade; and more than 50,000 people have viewed these programmes. 

Music Galore

The organizers selected the best Konkani songs of Mumbai, Mangalore, and Goa. Talented troupes of singers from Mangalore and Goa presented immortal Konkani numbers, accompanied by dance performances. The programme lasted for 3 hours, pleasing Konkani music enthusiasts who had assembled in large numbers. 

The singers were Adolph, Edith, Prakash, Eric, Joyce, Meena, Zeena, Lavita, Sunil, Sherin, Priya, Jean, Chandni, Preema, Dillon, Clarita, and Ralph, accompanied by Elton, Kenny, Kate, and Sharon of Mangalore and Anthony Syan, Sonam Lotlekar, Siddanath Buyavn, and Akash Telgu of Goa. The music directors of the programme were Sangeeth Guru Joel Periera and Roshan D’Souza Angelore. Popular numbers from Jerome, Henry, and Wilfy such as “Ye Ye Katrina,” “Rozaline Moja Mogachem,” “Thya Sanje Velar,” as well as the famous song from the movie “Padri,” titled “Samsaranth Kithem Asan,” by Anthony Syan, were presented to the delighted audience. 

Tribute to Wilfy Rebimbus 

A programme was organized in honor of Konkan Koghul Wilfy Rebimbus, who died recently. Melwyn Rodrigues, the Konkani poet, in his condolence speech, described Wilfy Rebimbus as a “chamathkarik athmo.” He said that Wilfy has written on dozens of subjects, touching people’s hearts and souls, adding that his own favourites were “Lungi,” “Devsarachi Ladin,” “Donpara Votha Sadebara Varar,” and many more. He said that has been immortalized by his own music and contributions. 

Mr. Louis Pinto honored Wilfy by placing a golden wreath made of notations of his song, “Konkani Amchi Bhas,” around his portrait. Fans of Wilfy offered their tribute to him by placing roses on his portrait while the singers of Mandd Sobhann sang Wilson Kateel’s poem, written as a tribute to Wilfy Rebimbus. 

Book Release 

Neetha Rebello’s research book on “Konkani Music - Yesterday, Today, and in Future” was released by Anuradha Paduwal, the chief guest. The book was placed inside a Gumat when it was brought for release. Ms Rebello spoke about her experiences conducting research on this subject. 

The comperer Titus Noronha entertained the audience with his jokes on women and promised to tell some jokes on men during the next Moinyali Manchi.

A collection of 100 crackers burst during the occassion polluted the environment with smoke and poisonous gas for a few moments.
