Mangaluru, Nov 12, 2014: Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre of Pamboor in Shankerpura of Udupi district which helps in the rehabilitation of differently-abled children through education and training, was conferred the 10th Pingara Rajyotsava Award 2014 at a function held at Don Bosco Hall on November 11, Tuesday. The Centre functions under the aegis of the Catholic Sabha.
Fr Aloysius Paul D’Souza presented the Award to Henry Menezes, Managing Trustee of Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre. Special Awards were also presented on the occasion to outstanding achievers including Dolla Mangalore, a talented Konkani artiste, Sridhar Gowda Kokkada who is working for the cause of Endosulfan victims, Remedia D’Souza, veteran politician and M Prabhaker.
Flavy D’Souza, President of Catholic Sabha Mangalore and Elroy Kiran Crasta, President of Udupi unit of Catholic Sabha were felicitated on the occasion. Differently abled Sunita Lobo and Pramila Pinto who won medals in the 2007 and 2013 Para Olympic Games were also honoured.
JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South congratulated Pingara Weekly for recognising and honouring outstanding personalities.
Ivan D’Souza, MLC who also spoke as a chief guest assured to sanction Rs 10 lakh out of his MLC Fund for Manasa Rehabilitation Centre.
Raymond D’Cunha, Editor-in-chief of Pingara Weekly, Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu, Fr James D’Souza, Parish Priest, Harikrishna Punaroor, former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Roy Castelino, Konkani Academy President and several others were present.
A play directed by John M Permannur was staged as part of the function.
