Kasargod, May 14, 2015: in a peculiar case, officials at the Karipur Airport in Kozhikode arrested a man who claimed himself to be physically challenged along with his accomplice on the charges of trying to smuggle gold worth Rs 2 crore.
Those arrested are Hussainer (42), a resident of Bevinje in Kasargod and Deepali Vijay (38) from Pune.
The two had arrived at the airport from Muscat by an Oman Air Flight on May 12, Tuesday afternoon. At the airport, Vijay sought a wheel chair from the officials after stating that he was physically challenged.
The airport authorities accordingly provided him a wheel chair when both merrily walked out of the airport under the impression that they will not have to undergo security check.
But the officials who kept a close watch on them after finding that Deepali did not look like a physically challenged person, trapped the duo when it was found that the person in the wheel chair had gold worth over Rs 2 crore in his jacket.
Further investigations are in progress.
