Man marries 8 women and disappears with their gold and money

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, June 9, 2012: Rajesh Anchan alia Harish Kinnigoli alias Sukumar stands accused of marrying eight women, giving them children, and vanishing from the scene with their gold and money. An advertisement in a Kannada daily, however, led to his exposure.

One of the women he had cheated spotted a missing advertisement with his photo in a Kannada daily and immediately recognized him. The photo, however, had a different name.

Fraud

Mani Anandady Shubha, who is now seven months pregnant with Sukumar’s child, posted an ad in a Kannada daily on May 17 stating that her husband Sukumar is missing. She even lodged a complaint with the Vittal Police Station.

Revathi of Bingre, one of Sukumar’s previous wives, spotted the ad and was surprised when she recognized the photo to be that of her missing husband Rajesh Anchan.

Revathi immediately got in touch with the Jaya Karnataka Social Service Group, which launched a manhunt for the missing husband and finally found him in Madikeri on the night of June 8, Friday. They immediately informed the Madikeri police, who swooped on him and turned him over to the Malpe police. The man will be produced in court on June 9, Saturday.

Sukumar alias Rajesh Anchan’s wives are Meenakshi of Deralakatte, Jayanthi of Uppinangady, Prema of Punchalakadu, Revathi of Bingre in Udupi, Revathi of Malpe Kanyadi, Sunanda of Madikeri, Shubha of Mani, and Shambhavi of Kasargod. Only Jayanthi is childless and Shubha is seven months pregnant.

They said that he told them tales of how he lost his parents in childhood and won their sympathy. Though a cook by profession, he told each woman that he had a different job. Once he was married to a woman and had children, he would disappear with her money, gold, and other valuables. The last woman he married was Shubha.

Sharing their experiences at a press meet on Saturday, the women said that he should be punished severely and prevented from ruining another woman again. They said that he would continue cheating women if he is set free.

Diwakar Shetty, president of the district unit of Jaya Karnataka, said that he might have cheated many more women whom he never married. He said that the government should provide financial assistance to the victims and promised that Jaya Karnataka will also assist them.
