Man kills wife, makes vain bid to bury her body

Puttur, April 15, 2016 : Puttur Police have arrested a person named Vijay From Byraguri on the charges of hacking his wife to death with a sickle and then trying to hush up the murder  by attempting to bury the body inside the house. Though the murder took place on the night of April  12, it came to light only on Thursday after neighbours suspected something fishy due to the foul smell that had started emanating from the house.

The deceased woman is Bhagirathi (31). It is believed that  Vijay murdered her suspecting her fidelity. Sources said the couple who were addicted to alcohol used to often quarrel, but their fight turned grave on April 12 night  culminating in the murder of Bhagirathi. As the couple’s three children lived with Bhagirathi’s elder sister, they were unaware of their mother’s murder.

 It is said Vijay had slept in the same house on the night of April 12 after murdering his wife.  He had even reportedly  made an attempt to bury her body  by unseating the toilet slab, but had failed. Later he tried to bury her outside the house, which too was unsuccessful.

Sampya police have registered a case and are investigating.
