Man hacks wife to death with wooden log ; arrested

Belthangady, Jan 08, 2021: A man from Gundibagilu in Neriya of Belthangady taluk has been arrested on the charges of hacking his wife to death with a wooden log in a drunken stupor on January 7, Thursday night.

The arrested man is Johnson (47). He has been accused of killing his wife Sowmya Francis (40). The couple were rubber tapping workers and used to frequently engage in quarrel. However, on Thursday night their quarrel seemed unending and Johnson in a fit of anger hit his wife with a wooden log. When she collapsed, Johnson was terrified and immediately shifted her to a private hospital with the help of locals. However Sowmya breathed her last before she was to be shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru for higher treatment. The couple has a 10 year old daughter.

Dharmasthala police have arrested Johnson on the basis of a complaint lodged by Sowmya’s brother.
