Chairing a Karnataka Development Programme Review Committee meeting here, he asked Mangaluru City Corporation, Public Works Department (PWD) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to swing into action to make all roads motorable.

The Minister asked the corporation to complete the median painting of roads in the city, repair all street lights and make all roads motorable before the Dasara celebrations.

Z. Samson Vijay Kumar, Mangaluru Project Director, NHAI, told the meeting that the potholes on Pumpwell and Nanthoor Junctions would be filled within a week.

He reiterated that Navyug Udupi Tollway Pvt. Ltd. has given it in writing that it would complete work on the flyover at Thokkottu by the end of December 2018 and the one at Pumpwell would be completed by March, 2019.

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil S. suggested that the Minor Irrigation Department can conduct an impact study before building vented dams under the Paschima Vahini Project in the district. “Don’t take it up merely as a civil project,” he said, quoting the example of the dam built across the Phalguni (Gurupura) at Malavoor on the Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) area and within the tidal zone of the Arabian Sea, which has created an issue of blockage of freshwater flow into the river reducing dissolved oxygen concentration. There should be a comprehensive study, he said.

An official from the Minor Irrigation Department said that of 11 such dams proposed in the district, bids have been invited to build 10 dams now. The bids would be opened next month. Minister  Khader asked the official to get approval from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the zilla panchayat and the Deputy Commissioner before going ahead with the construction of dams.
DK DC  Senthil suggested that the zilla panchayat open kiosks in gram panchayats to shift the Bapuji Seva Kendra services in gram panchayats to a designated location. It would help people to directly approach the kiosks for services. The kiosks should have dedicated staff.

Rajesh Naik U., MLA, Bantwal, Meenakshi Shantigodu, president, Zilla Panchayat, Selvamani R., CEO, zilla panchayat, and others were present.

On the other hand, common citizens are widely expressing that, with roads concreted widely and foot paths non existent or in bad condition not allowing ordinary citizens to use the same.  vehicles having become speed oriented are without care speeding on concrete roads; this is causing accidents and dissatisfaction to ordinary citizens for some time and needs attention.
