Mangaluru, June 29, 2018:  The eighth edition of Mahindra Adventure monsoon challenge 2018 will kick off in this coastal city today June 29,  Friday. City police chief T R Suresh will flag off the rally in front of Bharat Mall at Bejai.

35 rallyists participate in the biggest TSD (time, speed, distance) rally on the circuit. The participants will use vehicles of all descriptions by  Mahindras and the event will end at Regenta Resort, Varca Beach in Goa on July 1, Sunday.

Bijoy Kumar Y, chief of adventure initiatives of Mahindra Adventure told reporters that there will be an exclusive 50-km night sector for the participants post the flag off. Actual rally will start from Hotel Moti Mahal on Saturday and will see the participants pass through highways and rough road stretches with the Western Ghats providing the backdrop. While first leg will end at Murudeshwar on Saturday, the rally will conclude at the resort, covering nearly 600-kms.

Ace rallyists Ashwin Naik and Moosa Sharief of Indian Motor Sports Club who are coordinating with Mahindra Adventure on this initiative to give motor sports lover an entry level event in to motor sports, said the route recce has been carried out well in advance with a fresh recce two weeks ago. “We have drawn up plan B for the proposed route knowing fully well that the monsoon is at its peak and could pose some last minute challenges beyond our control,” Ashwin said.

The organisers have restricted the participation to 35 entries for logistical reasons and will see rally enthusiasts vie for total purse of Rs 3.5 lakh in professional category and amateur category that includes corporate, ladies, couple and media categories.

The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India has approved the event. The route will take participants on roads that most have not travelled so far, he said. Vinod Nookala, senior manager, Mahindra Adventure was present.
