Mangalore, October 15: The Mobility Training Centre for the Blind (MTCB) in Mangalore had its decennial celebrations, as part of which it organized a certificate distribution programme for physically handicapped and visually challenged students who had successfully completed their rehabilitation-based training course.

Prof. H. R. V. Reddy, the HOD of the Aquatic Environment Management of Fisheries College Mangalore was the chief guest. Ram Mohan Rao delivered the welcome address; and Surya Prakash Bhat compered the programme.

Commissioner of K. N. Vijay Prakash distributed the certificates and spoke of the importance of mobility and orientation training for people with vision impairments because it helps them develop the essential skills required to move around safely.

Speaking in appreciation of the MTCB’s commitment to helping visually and physically challenged individuals, he said that steps will be taken to release grants from the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to renovate the centre.

The chief trainer of MTCB spoke on how the centre imparts training to visually and physically challenged individuals of different age groups and added that more than 150 people have received training at the MTCB during the past decade.
