MRPL’s water supply will be cut off, threatens Kateel

Mangalore Today News Network

Nalin Kumar Kateel Mangalore, July 1: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel warned the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL) that the government will cut its water supply from the Netravathi River if it fails to pay Rs 1.02 crore.

He was speaking at the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee Meeting, which was convened to review the progress of DK’s rural development projects sponsored by the central government.

Explaining the matter further, he said that the government had spent Rs 1.02 crore to construct the 2.73km long Kana - Thokur road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The road is currently part of MRPL’s property and cannot be used by the public.

Mr. Kateel wanted to know why the PMGSY had not taken any action to recover the amount from the company. The executive engineer of the PMGSY, who was present for the meeting, said that he had taken charge only a few days ago.

The MP said that MRPL could be given the option of constructing another road in place of the road that it has acquired as its property. The company should either pay Rs. 1.02 crore or construct a new rural road failing which the company’s water supply will be cut off, he warned.

He added that he will discuss the issue of cutting MRPL’s water supply with the authorities concerned.
