MP assures Volvo bus service to Bajpe Airport soon

Mangalore, June 8, 2011: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has assured the public that Volvo bus services to Bajpe Airport will commence before July 15.

The MP was presiding over the Mangalore Airport maintenance coordination meeting when this decision was taken. Issues such as infrastructure development at the airport, land acquisition for runway extension, installing streetlights, establishing police outposts, and others were discussed during this meeting. The aim is to get international status for Mangalore Airport as early as possible.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Kateel said that 150 acres of land have been earmarked to extend the runway, which requires at least Rs. 36 crore and clarified that this estimated amount does not included rehabilitation of the displaced people. It was also decided to write to the department concerned to provide basic facilities for the construction of a good connecting road to the airport.

The deputy commissioner also instructed the MCC to supply water and undertake effective waste management projects according to the request made by M. R. Vasudev, the airport authority director. The possibilities of transporting and maintaining cargo through the old airport at Bajpe was also discussed.

Prabhakar Sharma, the additional deputy commissioner; Balakrishna, the superintendent engineer; Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, the assistant commissioner; Karumbaiah of KSRTC; M. N. Banavalli, the regional transport officer; and Tahsildar Ravichandra Nayak were present at the meeting.
