Mangaluru, October 3, 2015: District unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged all organisations in the district fighting against Yettinahole project to join the party’s padayatra on the issue on October 10. Party unit is undertaking the padayatra to mobilise public opinion against the project and will commence at Sri Brahma Baidarkala Garadi at Kankanady, and end at Yettinahole in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan district on October 13, Pratapsimha Nayak, president of the unit said.

Noting that padayatra will be carried out under the leadership of Daskhina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Pratapsimha Nayak told reporters here that the party has appealed to all concerned to join hands with this effort. "This is our attempt to ensure that the district speaks as one voice on the issue and projects an united stand before the government and get it to act in a manner that the interests of the district is not forsaken in the name of drinking water project," he said.

Critical of the inaction of the state government in calling a meeting of experts as assured at a meeting held here on September 19, Nalin said, "I have participated in the protests by various organisations on the issue as a MP and request all stakeholders to join hands in our effort to drive home the message to government." Nalin asserted he will do everything in his powers as a MP to draw the attention of the union government when the situation so warrants.

Advising the government from creating another flashpoint on the lines of Kalasa Banduri agitation in the district, Nalin said BJP at the same time is taking steps to fight the issue legally, with help of experts and also create awareness. Padayatra is being taken out as part of last of stated steps, he said, adding, he will also invite people from Kolar and other parched districts to come and see for themselves situation at Yettinahole as to how the government is taking them for a ride.

BJP leaders Capt Ganesh Karnik, Krishna J Palemar, Padmanabha Kottari, Satish Kumpala, Divakar Samani and others were also present.
