Bantwal, Sep 24, 2015 :   Speaking at the  inaugural of Dharini Coconut Producers Federation in Ujire,   Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel stated that there is a huge demand for coconut and its value-added products in the global market.


nalin kumar About 64 value-added products can be got from the coconut and Neera  which has potential for mass use..  He went on to say that at a time when the prices of rubber had crashed in the international market, this  ’Kalpavruksha’ can become a lifeline for farmers.

 MP Kateel said that a coconut park would come up in Bantwal on co-operative principles. The coconut farmers will be encouraged by providing suitable training and guidance from Coconut Development Board. 


The MP said that he was pursuing a proposal to set up a special agricultural zone in the district. Agricultural scientist will draft a proposal. 

The Dharini Coconut Producers Federation president Parari Rajashekar Hebbar said there were 8,219 coconut producers associations in the country and 614 federations.   Farmers who have been successful in cultivating coconut-Kempa Navoor, Babdu Devadiga, Kitta Moolya Kudyadi, Narayana Madivala Sulkerimogru, Ladru Pereira, Jayanth Nayaka Macharu, Prasada Arali Kashibettu, Deekayya Naik Kalmanja, Govinda Nidle, Ravi Poojary, Moidu Kunhi Kakkinje and Ishwara Aladangady were felicitated.

Horticulture department Assistant Director Sanjeeva Naik and others were present. The federation has 800 members from 65 villages.
